The current voting machines used in Montgomery County, the Sequoia AVC Advantage, were purchased in 1996. The County claims that we were one of the earliest counties in the nation to utilize a direct recording electronic (DRE) machine. A key problem with the existing technology is that it doesn’t offer paper-ballot back-up.

Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence and COO Lee Soltysiak have informed the Chair of the County Republican Party, Liz Havey and the Chair of the County Democrat Party, Joe Foster, that ALL Montgomery County polls will have new voting machines by the 2019 primary elections. These machines are intended to be an improvement to the current technology and will produce both an electronic and a paper record that can be checked and verified by the voter.

Your first chance to try the new machines will be at the New Voting System Expo in Doylestown. The expo is being held Thursday, December 13th 4-8pm at the Bucks County Administration Building (55 E Court Street Doylestown, PA 18901). Most likely the Pennsylvania Department of State will hold other expos through out Montgomery County but those dates haven’t been announced as yet.

Note that all Judges of Elections, Minority Inspectors, and Majority Inspectors will be required to complete a training course on these new machines in order to work the polls in preparation for Primary Election Day – May 21st, 2019.

At some point in the future I expect this page will be updated with details on the new machines: https://montcopa.org/1388/Voting-Machines
