I supplied the comment below prior to the Borough Council’s May 13th vote on flying the rainbow flag during “pride” month. The result was a unanimous vote approving flying the flag. In justifying this policy the Council repeatedly claimed that is wasn’t a “political” decision. In a day and age when the left has made everything political including logos on consumer products, being told that reinforcing the victim status of select identity groups isn’t political is misleading at best.

Trying to counter the proposition that we need only the American flag, an interesting claim was made that State and County flags represent sub-communities of our nation. Can’t say I’ve ever heard it described that way before. I was also told that flying the POW-MIA flag is out of “respect for our veterans”. Said apparently completely ignorant of our country’s consistent demand that all our personnel be returned home from the war, every last one, since communists lie and can’t be trusted. I could only shake my head at that.

After the vote I commented, to Council, as plainly as I could that favoritism by government is WRONG. I also told them about a quote by Frederick Douglass describing the harm caused by perpetuating victim hood. Since then I tried to research the quote and found out that what I was remembering was actually a Booker T Washington quote about “problem profiteers”.

For years I have detailed, for Council, many concerns regarding how our Borough government expressing support for identity politics is wrong. I’m not going to repeat myself. I do however want to call your attention to four additional points for your consideration.

First – Flying the rainbow flag is not actually striking a blow against Trump

President Trump is indeed a unique figure in politics. What the media will never admit, about his election victory, is that anti-woke sentiment was THE key driver of the public’s support. Trump was smart enough to ride the wave. The preference cascade highlighted by his election is in fact a global movement. Early moves in Poland and Brazil were overridden; we have since learned that was due to the malfeasance of billions of dollars from NGO funds being used to suppress the will of the public in those countries. The preference for anti-woke government is strong in the Baltic states, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy, Argentina, El Salvador and now the US. People around the world have insisted on a return to common sense government.

Second – It’s clear the Woke agenda is a losing proposition

I’d like to share with Council some thoughts of Mr. Bill Whittle. He is a political pundit from LA. He drew an interesting analogy between the result of the November election and the battle of Midway. Just six months after Pearl Harbor strategic thinkers knew that Imperial Japan could not win. The war wasn’t over, many tough battles remained, but the outcome was certain. As a Marine I’ve read about Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. They were some of the most fierce battles in modern times. Just like Imperial Japan we can expect the globalists to continue resisting the will of the people, until the bitter end. In 2025 it is becoming more obvious that the Woke agenda is done – people are not going to sit shivering in the dark eating bugs, while the global elite live the high life – that fever dream is never going to happen.

Third – It isn’t “just a flag”

Taken on it’s own, flying the rainbow flag doesn’t seem like a big deal. That’s by design. The woke agenda is always presented piece meal. That is a tactic known as “slow boiling the frog”. However, viewed as a whole it can not be denied that the woke agenda’s primary intent is to erode the foundations of Western Civilization. Thus, flying the rainbow flag is not a trivial matter; it is a component in the attack on our country as founded.

Fourth – Council needs a wider diversity of opinion

I’ve been coming to Council meetings for close to ten years now. In all that time Council votes have generally been unanimous. I don’t believe it is an exaggeration to claim that, since Jack Cooper resigned, 99 percent of the time Council votes are unanimous decisions. When looking at the total of the last several years of Council votes that outcome seems statistically improbable. If I were to ask individual Council members what they want as a pizza topping odds are there would not be unanimous agreement.

I knew it was too much to expect Council to hold a vote to ban flying the rainbow flag on Borough property; which is what should be done. I had hoped that this year the Council would show some discretion and ignore “pride” month. As you can see that did not happen. Given the past voting pattern I’m very concerned that there isn’t a Council member able to step up and say enough is enough.

Expecting Council members to vote against the wide array of interests that compels people to stick to the narrative is asking a lot. To stand up to those forces takes, what we call in the Marines, “intestinal fortitude”. Given what we now know about the end goals of the so called “New World Order”, I respectfully request that Council take this opportunity to show you have what it takes to break from the herd; for this resident a vote to stay Woke is not acceptable.

To summarize:

1) Support for commonsense government is much bigger that Trump

2) Going Woke is a lost cause

3) The rainbow flag is another brick in the wall

4) When you are deciding how to vote, make my pizza – Meat Lovers!

As President Theodore Roosevelt said: “We have room for but one flag, the American flag”.
